Technical Director of Surgical Skills Lab - Grade 114

The Director of Surgical Skills Lab, with a strong surgical background, is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the surgical skills training program within one of the world's largest simulation centers. This position involves the utilization of animal and cadaver models to enhance the surgical skills of medical professionals, residents, and students

Employer Requirements:

Vacancy for international candidate who are not currently working in Qatar. 

Education: Medical Degree (MD or equivalent) with surgical specialty. 

Experience:  8 years experience in healthcare of which 4 years experience must be working on supervisory level in area of specialty.

Extensive experience in surgical practice and surgical skills training.

Experience working in an educational/teaching laboratory or similar environment

Track record in wet lab accreditation processes

Previous participation in an IACUC committee is considered a significant plus, highlighting a commitment to ethical considerations and compliance in the use of animal models in medical education.

Proven leadership experience, preferably in a similar role.

Certification: Certification in Simulation based education is desirable.

Knowledge & Skills: In depth knowledge of surgical procedures. Familiarity with simulation technology and its application in medical education.

Monthly Salary:  The offered amount is the discretion of the employer.

Package

OVERSEAS CONTRACT: GRADE 114 - TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Basic Salary: The offered amount is the discretion of the employer. 

Market Allowance: % of basic salary.

Monthly Professional Allowance: % of basic salary.

Transport Allowance: 1250 QAR per month.

Mobile Allowance: 300 QAR per month. 

Accommodation: Provided.

Annual Leave: 50 calendar days per year.

Schooling Assistance: 21 000 QAR (maximum) (up to 3 children) per child per academic year up to (ages from 5-18 years and provided that they are studying in private schools in Doha). Payment will be made upon submission of the appropriate receipts and will cover basic tuition fee only (provided that you obtained residence permit for them under your sponsorship).

Air Passage Entitlement: Air passage/flight ticket for self and family - up to 3 children up to 18 years old, on joining, annual leave & repatriation (provided that he/she obtained residence permit for them under his/her sponsorship).

Baggage Allowance: Unaccompanied baggage for yourself - up to 50 kg and family up to 200 kg on joining, and 100kg for self and 250 kg for family on  repatriation, to be reimbursed at standard rate.

Specification

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development and Management:

Develop, implement, and continually improve surgical skills training programs using animal and cadaver models.

Collaborate with medical professionals, surgical department, and educators to identify training needs and ensure that the programs align with industry standards.

Lab Operations:

Manage day-to-day operations of the surgical skills lab, including scheduling, resource allocation, and maintenance of equipment and facilities.

Ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards for the use of animal and cadaver models in medical education.

Oversee the sourcing of animals and be responsible for ensuring cadaveric and supporting teaching materials are available and prepared as required for the course program.

Supervise and adhere to local standards for the cleaning and maintenance of all laboratory spaces. Additionally, oversee the storage, cataloging, and maintenance of inventory for teaching specimens, skeletons, bones, models, and other educational resources.

Contribute to the development of new or improved methods/techniques/equipment.

Administrative:

Assist with maintenance of Lab statutory documentation relating to cadaver information and records including processing movement of cadavers, from receipt to disposal. Ensuring accurate completion of all documentation, records and reports.

Assist and advise on the pricing and purchasing of equipment/apparatus/software and completion of administration relating to ordering.

Curriculum Design:

Design and update surgical skills curricula that meet the evolving needs of medical professionals, incorporating the latest advancements in surgical techniques and technologies.

Adapt and refine work practices and procedures in own area

Training and Instruction:

Provide hands-on instruction and guidance to participants during training sessions.

Recruit and train qualified instructors to assist in the delivery of training programs.

Research and Innovation:

Stay abreast of advancements in surgical education and simulation technology.

Lead or collaborate on research projects related to surgical skills training, aiming for continuous improvement and innovation.

Quality Assurance:

Implement and maintain quality assurance processes to ensure the effectiveness of training programs.

Collect and analyze data on participant performance and provide feedback for improvement.

Collaboration:

Collaborate with other departments within the organization to integrate surgical skills training into broader medical education initiatives.

Foster partnerships with medical institutions, industry partners, and professional organizations.
