3 Year contract (renewable)

  • Single and family contracts available.

Generous Tax free basic salary.  Offered according to experience.

From 15 000 QAR up to 27875 QAR basic salary per month.

27875  QAR +/- 115 000  ZAR, 7000 EUR , 11400 AUD, 7700 USD, 10200 CAD, 6200 GBP, 5400 JOD, 22 000 TND.  Salary paid in QAR.

  • Free fully furnished accommodation provided.
  • Transport allowance of 1250 QAR per month added to your basic salary.
  • Free "round trip" (to and from home country) flight tickets on joining, annual leave, and on repatriation. For those with family contract offered this will be also be applicable for your family (wife and up to 3 children up to 18 years old).
  • School allowance: 21 000 QAR (maximum) for up to 3 children (ages 5- 18) per child per academic year provided that they are studying in private schools in Doha.
  • 40 days paid annual vacation days.
  • End of Service Award (at end of contract) which is one month's salary for each year worked.

Minimum Requirements


  • PhD Degree in an area of Pre-Implantation Embryology


  • Minimum: 6 years experience.


  • Valid Primary license from the country of origin (if applicable) AND should be eligible for license from the Licensing authority in the State of Qatar to practice Healthcare Profession.


  • Fluent in English - Oral and Written.

Position Summary

With the Mission, Vision and Values of the Medical Group-participate in the performance, supervision and development of laboratory tests in the concerned section in addition to taking part in applied scientific research.

Principal Accountabilities

Performs a combination, but not necessarily all, of the following duties:

  1. 1. Assist Chairman in the day to day operation of the clinical laboratories.
  2. Monitor the work assignments of each Section/Division in order to assure the proper functioning of all sections.
  3. Facilitates the ordering of the supplies and materials and ensure adequate inventories for each Section/Division
  4. Investigates and acts as an arbitrator in matters of dispute arising from work assignments recommends any necessary disciplinary action to the department head through the lab director.
  5. Acts as laboratory representative in Hospital committees if and when required by the lab director.
  6. Participates and assists in continuing education of the technical staff and training program in medical technology for developees and Qatar University students.
  7. Oversees the Implementation and documentation of quality control /assurance program.
  8. Assures responsibilities for maintaining department safety standards.
  9. Perform other professional duties as required by her head of the section and the department head.
  10. Responsible for management of human embryos and provides input into clinical decisions.
  11. Coordinates Patient information for gamete and embryo status with physicians, nurses and laboratory personnel.
  12. Analyzes and prepares fresh and/or frozen semen samples for insemination of patients or oocytes retrieval, determines oocyte insemination.
  13. Determines fertilization results, monitors in-vitro development of cultured embryos, and evaluates embryo suitability for transfer or cryopresevation.
  14. Assists with and confirms transvaginal embryo transfer with physician; determines normalcy and viability of non-transferred, extra embryos and performs cryopesevation techniques of appropriate embryos.
  15. Performs daily quality control and quality assurance reviews; maintains accurate and complete records of all procedures.
  16. Strictly adheres to policies and procedures regarding patient/specimen identification and patient confidentiality.
  17. Prepares sterile media and supplies; maintains gas, water baths and liquid nitrogen tanks; assists in or evaluates in or evaluates the need for emergency repair of laboratory equipment; performs calibration and preventive maintenance of equipment.
  18. Maintains laboratory inventory; orders equipment and supplies.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Duties and Responsibilities General Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain inventories of supplies and prepare purchase orders for lab items, which include reagents and general disposables.
  2. Coordinating daily jobs in lab.


  1. Perform lab duties according to IVF lab manuals.
  2. Preparation and maintenance of culturing reagents reagents and culturing of sperm and embryos.
  3. Semen analysis.
  4. Cryopresevation of sperm.
  5. Semen preparation obtaining from ejaculation or TESA, PESA for insemination IVF/ICSI.
  6. Preparation of semen sample for artificial insemination (IUI) .
  7. Insemination of oocyte.
  8. Denuding of oocyte (technique for cleaning up the oocyte using enzyme before ICSI procedure.
  9. Intra cytoplasmic sperm injection under microscope.
  10. Fertilization scoring.
  11. Monitoring embryos development .
  12. Selection best embryos quality for embryo transfer.
  13. Cryopreservation of embryos.


  1. Read about recent development in the field and discuss it with lab supervisor and head of section that how we can benefit from it.


  1. Collect all the clinical information regarding patients.
  2. Assist lab supervisor in providing results to physicians.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Laboratory Information:

  1. Knowledge of the lab protocols.
  2. Use computer for result recording etc.

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Knowledge of human embryology and knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in an ART laboratory.
  2. Knowledge of hospital, state regulations regarding laboratory operating procedures, knowledge of established protocols for maintaining sterile laboratory environment.
  3. Skill in locating and identifying human oocyt, and skill in identifying normal and abnormal semen samples.
  4. Ability to apply the appropriate protocols.
  5. Poeesee hand/eye coordination
  6. Ability to safely operate laboratory equipment and ability to work in an optically enhanced environment.
  7. Ability to work with personal computers.
  8. Ability to read and understand documents such as test result, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  9. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  10. Possess verbal and written communication skills to interact with and convey information to staff and patients.

Effort and Environment:

  1. Work with lab staff as a team player.
  2. Discuss routine lab.
  3. Experience and observation with other group members Decision and Judgments.
  4. The post holder is expected to prioritize their routine and additional responsibilities.

Typical Judgments:

  1. Determine the audit schedule for Cryopreserved sperm.
  2. Decide on the appropriate treatment a couple, based on semen analysis
  3. Selection of embryos for transfer, cryopreservation or disposal.
  4. Advise urologist when sufficient sperm has been obtained during surgical sperm retrieval Communication and Relationships:
  5. The post holder works as part of multi-disciplinary team within the Assisted Conception Service.
  6. The post holder is expected to play a part in in-house teaching, Data entry and research presentations.
  7. These are held weekly and all staff is expect to attend whenever possible.
  8. All embryology staff has daily contact with patients, both in person and by telephone.

Embryologists are responsible for:

  1. Information patients how many eggs have successfully
  2. Fertilized after IVF and ICSI treatments.
  3. Giving the results of hormone assay and arranging subsequent tests.
  4. Telling patients when, and how many embryos will be thawed during frozen/thawed cycles.
  5. Informing patients how many embryos have survived thawing.
  6. Informing patients whether embryos are suitable for cryopresevation or must be discarded.
  7. Making appointments for patients to produce semen samples.
  8. The above tasks may involve giving bad news, for example, all eggs have failed to fertilize or embryos did not survive the freezing and thawing process.
  9. The embryologist must give this information sensitively and ensure that distressed patients have understood the information given.
  10. Dealing with men and adolescents who have recently been diagnosed with cancer can be very emotionally demanding, especially when their illness results in failure to produce a semen sample with the potential to allow them to have a family in the future.

Physical Demands of the Job:

  1. Clinical embryology is highly specialized profession requiring prolonged periods of intense concentration and the precise manipulation of gametes and embryos, in a controlled environment, using microscopes and micromanipulation equipment.

Tasks include:

  2. The identification and movement of eggs during the retrieval procedure
  3. Preparation of semen samples .
  4. Removal of cells from eggs prior to ICSI and before fertilization assessments
  5. Performing ICSI- selection and immobilization of single sperm, correct orientation of an egg and injection of the sperm into the egg.
  6. The time taken for this process is dependent on the number of eggs and sperm quality.
  7. Identifying sufficient sperm in a poor semen sample can take up to two hours.
  8. Detailed assessments of embryos normality and quality.
  9. Processing embryos though a series of solutions during freezing and thawing
  10. Embryo transfer, involving precise synchrony with the clinician performing the procedure.
  11. Manipulation of ampoules and straes under liquid nitrogen.
  12. Handling hazardous materials e.g. body fluids and liquid nitrogen.
  13. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities the Clinical Scientist must have the skills , knowledge and experience detailed in the National Occupational standard for

Clinical Scientist including:

  • An understanding scientific evidence and underpinning clinical embryology practice.
  • An understanding of the work of related disciplines.
  • An appropriate level of clinical experience.
  • An appropriate level of supervision skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patient and other disciplines
